Hi Wahines,

I'm putting on the annual Cool Kailua Nights Block Party on October 13th and if any of you want to promote your products and services by donating to our auction and helping a good cause, we'd love that! Below are more details. If interested, let me know and I'll send you the auction form. Mahalo!

The Windward community will come together for the fourth annual Cool Kailua Nights, a free block party on Saturday, October 13th from 4 to 9:30 p.m. in the Whole Foods Market parking lot in Kailua Town Center. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys & Girls Club's Windward Clubhouse and Castle Medical Center's Oncology Unit.

This year's Cool Kailua Nights may be the biggest in the event's history with organizers expecting as many as 15,000 people. More than 40 local shops and restaurants are participating in the event.

"We are thrilled that so many Windward organizations and businesses want to be a part of this community event," said Danielle Scherman, founder of Cool Kailua Nights. "It's going to be an exciting night in Kailua with entertainment on the main stage, a beer garden, a silent auction and various tents featuring food and merchandise from local restaurants and shops. We invite our neighbors from the nearby Marine Corps base and our Kailua friends to come out for the fun."

Evening entertainment will include a fashion show featuring designs from Kailua vendors, various musical groups, including Kapena, and a doggie fashion show with therapy dogs wearing donated outfits.

"Kaneohe Ranch is proud to be one of many sponsors for Cool Kailua Nights," said Kimo Steinwascher, executive vice president and COO of Kaneohe Ranch. "Our Kailua Town Center (Phase III) is fully occupied and is the ideal gathering place for this block party. It's also great to see so many businesses donate their time, energy and products to such a good cause."

Other highlights for Cool Kailua Nights will include a dunking tank run by the Boys and Girls Club and various lemonades for sale from Lemonade Alley, a program that teaches entrepreneurial skills to students by helping them run their own lemonade stands and businesses. Throughout the night, students will be on stage promoting their various flavors of lemonades to the audience and competing with each other to see who can make the most sales.

Scherman founded Cool Kailua Nights in honor of her mother, a breast cancer survivor. All proceeds will go toward Castle's Oncology Unit, which provides outpatient services to patients battling cancer, and to the Boys & Girls Club's Windward Clubhouse, which provides children from 7 to 17 years old guidance-oriented character development programs.
