Hi Wahines,
Have you heard of the concept of "listening" in social media? Listening means having your ear to the ground about what's being said about you, your business, and your industry online. Listening is an important element of any social media marketing plan, but it can also be overwhelming. You could easily spend all day combing the web for mentions!
That's why it's important to automate social media listening. A great tool for this is SocialMention.com. They are very thorough and include tweets, blog comments, videos and more.
To learn how to automate you listening process, follow these steps below:
1: So the first thing you want to start with is your own name. You want to put it in quotes to make sure it's an exact match. You might want to search more like blogs, networks, bookmarks. You want to go ahead and choose "All" and hit "Search". And once you do that, you'll see this page come up with all the mentions about you on the Internet and all sorts of sources like Twitter and Blogher, Technorati, Google Blog, along with a lot of cool interesting stuffs along this side as well.
2: So now that you have your search, you'll want access to this info with out having to do the search every single day. And the way that you do that is with an RSS feed. So once you grab the RSS feed, you can add it to a feed reader such as Google Reader or Netvibes, and once you put it in your feed reader, you can just go to that page and it'll be automatically updated. You can create a feed reader with as many of these as you want, so your name, your business name, and all the other things we talked about.
3: So after you go to SocialMention.com and enter your search terms and hit "Search" this results page, you want to click on this little button that says, "RSS Feed". That will bring you to a page with your RSS feed and all you have to do is copy and paste the URL of this page and put it into your feed reader.
Voila!
